Insights - Q&A on Redemption

Question:

Answer:

We received a clear prophecy from the Lubavitcher Rebbe that we are the generation of redemption!

Some people feel that the best way to bolster themselves against any possible setback or disappointment is never to get their hopes up in the first place.  To them, believing in the imminence of Moshiach's coming is just a setup for frustration.  However, the Jewish people did not survive for thousands of years by being pessimistic.  On the contrary, the secret to our survival is that we have always anticipated the future with an optimistic and faith-filled outlook.

According to Maimonides, one of the thirteen principles of faith is to “believe with perfect faith in the coming of Moshiach, and even if he delays, I await his arrival each day.”  This is our challenge - to continue believing in Moshiach’s coming even though he failed to come when we expected him.  The dictate to believe in Moshiach demands not only that we believe that he might come, or that he will come someday, but that he will not be delayed and his arrival is imminent.

Our generation has a unique advantage over previous generations in that we received a clear prophecy from the Lubavitcher Rebbe that we are the generation of redemption! The Rebbe has a proven record of accuracy in his predictions and prophecies - including the breakdown of the Soviet Union, the defeat of Saddam Hussein and the safety of the Jewish people in Israel during the Gulf War. Since the Rebbe stated publicly and unequivocally that Moshiach is on his way (as the Rebbe told a CNN correspondent, knowing that his words would be broadcast worldwide) we can safely put our trust in the Rebbe's assurances.

We have already had so many disappointments in the past, waiting for Moshiach.  Isn't it a mistake to raise hopes that may once again be dashed?
